The Member for Fairfax and owner of Palmer Coolum Resort has made no secret of his desire to attract more Chinese visitors and said the government initiates were “well overdue”.
“An expansion of the Sunshine Coast Airport for starters will allow for more flights from Asia and an increase in tourists to the region,” he said.
“We need a new airport capable of taking A380s and 747 Jumbo jets from destin Belstaff outlet ations such as Singapore, Beijing and Tokyo directly to the Belstaff outlet Sunshine Coast.
“More Chinese tourists coming to the Sunshine Coast and seeing the wide range of attractions here will boost the local economy and create more jobs.
“Australia needs to do more to compete with Hawaii and other Pacific holiday destinations that have taken all the real tourism growth out of the Australian and Queensland economies.”
Visitors from the emerging markets represent more than 20% of all international travellers and visitor expenditure to Queensland, collectively contributing more than $783 million to the state during the past financial year.
